As tradition has it in our school, Year 6 students mark the end of their primary school journey with a day trip to Gozo. We had been waiting eagerly for this day to come and on the day we were very excited, especially for some of us, being their first trip.
The ferry left Cirkewwa and while sailing across Malta to Gozo we saw the crystal seas of Comino’s Blue Lagoon. When we arrived in Gozo, we started off with a visit to the old, picturesque city of the Citadel, where we had the opportunity to taste its brief history. We were amazed at the spectacular views from the bastions. Then, we saw some shelters which were used during the war and we also had the opportunity to go into the silos, which were used to store grain and later, water. We also visited the old prison which goes back to the Great Siege, and we were impressed with the prisoners’ graffiti etched on the cell walls. Some of these even served as a calendar. We also paid a short visit to the Archaeology Museum where we learned more about the different historical ages in Malta and Gozo and saw different materials and precious ornaments that were found in Gozo. We ended our Citadel visit by spending some time at the Natural Science Museum. Gems, rhinestones, butterflies, birds and fish captivated us!
Afterwards, we had a well-deserved and pleasant meal at a typical Gozitan restaurant, complemented with beautiful scenery of the sea surrounding the islands. This was followed by a nice walk to Mgarr where we caught the ferry back to Malta.
This special day wasn’t just an educational trip but it was a memorable celebration of friendship, a successful year and the end of an incredible journey. Time surely flies…Through these four years we have grown and made cherished memories that will be treasured forever!
