Fieldwork Trip in Buskett

Year 6 pupils have recently been on a fieldwork trip to Buskett as part of their science lessons. Fieldwork gives pupils the possibility of experiencing “hands on” animals and plants in their natural environment.

Here are some of the activities that the children were involved in.

  • They measured the temperature, the strength and direction of the wind and the humidity.
  • They measured long distances using a trundle wheel.
  • They looked at the characteristics of different trees.
  • They looked for different flowers and collected pollen.
  • They looked for seeds.
  • They looked at the way insects such as bees and butterflies.
  • They looked at small animals and insects that live in a dry habitat through a lens.
  • They carried out some research on rubbish that people dump in the area.
  • They looked for insects, frogs and other animals.
  • They measured and weighed snails, leaves and other natural samples.
