Summer!

It’s the midst of summer and possibly as hot as it can get. School’s out, and hopefully everyone is enjoying a good break. However, work at school hasn’t really stopped…

The past weeks have been an intense period of activity on various levels. Preparations for the next scholastic year have long been under way and there are plenty of things going on…

So what is happening? Possibly the most important thing that is happening at the moment is the formulation of the School’s Development Plan (or SDP) for next year. The fundamental purpose of school development planning is to make it easier for schools to devise and implement their own strategies for school improvement and to enhance the highest possible level of effectiveness for every child to succeed (DQSE, 2008). The SDP highlights the needs of our school and provides for a clear way forward. It is inherent to the school’s raison d’être and a powerful tool that supports personal and professional development across board. We have worked hard to identify the priority areas which we need to address over the coming months. These include but are not limited to:

  • Embellishing the Physical Aspect of the School
  • Developing School Policies
  • Curriculum Organisation
  • Developing a Positive School Climate
  • Team Building and Staff Development
  • Addressing Literacy Issues
  • Enhancing Teaching and Learning
  • Enhancing E-Learning Strategies
  • Projects and Initiatives
  • Enhancing Links with the Community

We have also finalised the school’s diary – a first for our school. The school diary, which will be available once school starts in September, is an easy to use tool that will help our pupils organise their time and work more appropriately, helping them (and parents) to keep track of what needs to be done.

The school calendar for the new scholastic year is already available on our website, with the most important events in place.

All our school library books are being catalogued so that the school library will be able to start operating early during the new scholastic year. At the same time, we are working on getting the “Book and Go” project off the ground, a project that aims to encourage children to read more.

In the meantime, we have also refurbished the school secretary’s office, creating a more user friendly and welcoming environment. We are also in the process of creating a Reception Area in order to further ensure the safety and well-being of children while at school. The corridors on the ground floor are being painted with plans to paint all the common areas in the school over the next months. We are also slowly but surely refurbishing students’ desks with plenty other projects in the pipeline!  We aim to make our school to be as nice, as welcoming and as inviting as possible.

So, while you’re enjoying yourselves on the beach this summer, spare a thought for all the stuff that is going on at school.

We look forward to welcome you all back to school in September but in the meantime, enjoy your holidays!
