Students in Year 6 are participating in a comic strip competition about “Democracy and human rights at school”. This competition is being organised under the pilot project scheme “Human Rights and Democracy in Action” supported by the European Commission and the Council of Europe.
The competition aims to give students a chance to express their views of democracy and human rights as they see it in their daily lives at school. Mr Roderick Cilia and Ms Charmaine Cassar, the PSD teachers at school, held several lessons during which Year 6 students had the chance to explore the basic principles of the Charter on Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education in the context of schools, including participation in decision-making, value of diversity, peace, respect for human dignity, equal chances and opportunities. In the meantime, Ms Sherryanne Gauci, our Art teacher, helped the students develop comic strips that give a clear and direct message.
The best works from our school have been submitted to the Council of Europe. Well done to Leah Caligari, Jake Degiorgio and Kayaa Marie Ellul for the great comic strips they have produced!
The general public will shortly be invited to vote online for the comic strips which they most like.
