Work out the English Reading Benchmark 2018 Paper. You can download it from here.

If you do not have access to a printer, use a copybook or sheet of paper.

Wednesday 18 March 2020

Let’s have some punctuation fun. Even though Year 6 students should not be on Facebook Messenger, we still know most of you are. This is a way to put Messenger, WhatsApp or Skype to some good use. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Find a partner you are going to work with. This could be on your friends or it could be a family member. Remember do not go out but stay indoors. So no one will go to anyone else’s house.
  2. Find a very short story that you really like which has a lot of punctuation marks.
  3. Decide on a sound effect for each punctuation mark, for example, a whistle for a comma, clap hands for a full stop, a beep for all the capital letters.
  4. Now comes the performance! One partner reads and the other makes the sound effects for every punctuation mark.
  5. Try switching roles of performer and reader with the same story or a different one!
  6. You can take a video of you doing this activity, or a photo so that we can all have a good laugh when we go back to school.

Thursday 19 March 2020

Today is a public holiday! Spend some time reading your favourite story, even if it is a story from when you were still a toddler!

Friday 20 March 2020

It’s Friday and time to do some research.

English people love to drink a cuppa – that’s a cup of tea!

Use the internet, or books, to find out how tea was discovered, who discovered it, how the English came to love it, the different varieties of tea that exist, and the way a cup of tea is prepared.

Show your research in a PowerPoint presentation with no more than 6 slides.
